Tata Motors will leverage its newly acquired global scale to expand its commercial vehicle (CV) business across markets, with Iveco products set to enter India and Tata-branded vehicles to be introduced in markets where the Italian truck and bus maker has a strong presence.
The road ahead will focus on cross-market opportunities, technology sharing and accelerated innovation as the two companies embark on a joint growth strategy following the completion of the €3.8-billion acquisition of Iveco Group NV.
“The ambition to become a global company has become reality today,” Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said at a press conference in Turin, Italy, marking the completion of the transaction.
Mr.
Chandrasekaran, who is also Chairman of Tata Motors, has taken over as Chairman of Iveco Group.
Describing the completion of the transaction in 15 months as a significant achievement, he said the complementary product portfolios and geographic strengths of the two companies had created a “truly global enterprise”.
The combined entity, ranked fourth globally among commercial vehicle manufacturers, has a presence in over 130 countries across Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
It is expected to generate revenues exceeding €21 billion (around Rs 2.28 lakh crore).
The enlarged group has 27 manufacturing facilities, 25 research and development centres and a network of over 9,300 sales and service centres.
It employs more than 73,000 people across six continents.
“This should not be seen as a consolidation effort.
Two iconic companies have come together to create a growth-oriented future,” Mr.
Chandrasekaran emphasised.
He said the group would invest for the long term and enable ideas and capabilities to flow in both directions, leveraging its combined scale, reach and talent to make commercial mobility safer, smarter, more connected and sustainable.
Tata Motors MD and CEO Girish Wagh said the complementary portfolios, capabilities and geographic strengths offered a strong foundation for growth while ensuring continuity for customers, dealers and partners.
“Our ambition is to build a stronger enterprise by combining our strengths in engineering, new-age technologies, sourcing, distribution and customer networks,” he said.
Iveco CEO Olof Persson said the partnership brought together strong brands, industrial heritage and capabilities, backed by a shared long-term commitment to sustainable transport.
Iveco will retain its headquarters in Turin, with its brands, teams and industrial footprint maintaining their distinct identities.
Tata Motors will support Iveco’s existing strategy and investment plans while exploring opportunities to leverage synergies.
The combined powertrain portfolio spans conventional combustion engines, natural gas, battery-electric, hydrogen and other emerging low- and zero-emission technologies, providing multiple pathways towards decarbonisation.
A joint team will formulate a business plan to drive future growth.
Besides introducing Iveco products in India and Tata-branded vehicles in Iveco’s established markets, the group will explore new geographies to expand its global footprint.
