German specialty chemicals company LANXESS and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore long-term cooperation in advanced industrial lubricants, specialty fluids and emerging applications in India.

The non-exclusive agreement provides a framework for joint technical evaluations, product development, OEM approvals, localisation and commercialisation, subject to regulatory approvals and definitive agreements.

The proposed collaboration covers high-performance bearing and circulating oils, hydraulic fluids, turbine oils, refrigeration lubricants, specialty greases, industrial additives and immersion cooling fluids for data centres.

The companies will also explore bio-based lubricants, electric vehicle fluids, hydrogen economy applications and environmentally acceptable lubricants.

The partnership will combine LANXESS’s global expertise in lubricant additives, formulation technologies and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) relationships with BPCL’s domestic market presence, base oil portfolio, manufacturing infrastructure and customer network.

“Together with BPCL, we look forward to bringing localized, high-performance lubricant solutions closer to our customers in India and supporting their growth with greater speed and reliability,” said Karam Faddoul, Head of Sales IMEA, LANXESS’s Lubricant Additives business unit.

Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Vice-President and Global Head of the business unit, said the collaboration would help accelerate the development and commercialisation of high-performance lubricants tailored to evolving industrial needs.

Kannan S, Business Head, BPCL, said the partnership would combine LANXESS’s global technological expertise with BPCL Lubes R&D’s application knowledge and understanding to jointly develop solutions that will address Indian industry needs and emerging industrial challenges.

“This complementary partnership will strengthen our respective capabilities, accelerate technology development and enable us to deliver differentiated, high-performance and future-ready lubricant solutions for evolving industrial applications,” he added.
