“In case there is any further repo action, EBLR portfolio further gets repriced quickly. This will add maybe 4-5 basis points to NIM,” Mr. Setty said.

State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest commercial bank, reported a 14.28% year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit to ₹23,038 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026, aided by lower loan-loss provisions and improved asset quality.
Net interest income (NII) rose 14.69% to ₹49,143 crore, while net interest margin (NIM) improved three basis points to 3.11% from 3.08% a year ago.
Loan-loss provisions declined 33.23% YoY to ₹2,759 crore.
The bank’s gross non-performing assets (GNPA) fell 4.87% to ₹72,529 crore.
The GNPA ratio improved 34 basis points to 1.39%.
Net NPA, however, edged up 0.47% to ₹18,546 crore, although the NNPA ratio declined six basis points to 0.36%.
Gross advances grew 17.84% YoY to ₹52.08 lakh crore.
Domestic corporate advances increased 16.12% to ₹14.39 lakh crore and domestic retail personal loans by 14.54% to ₹18.25 lakh crore.
Home loans accounted for ₹9.86 lakh crore, registering 11.94% growth.
Addressing a press conference, SBI Chairman C.S.
Setty said, “The Indian economy continues to offer strong growth opportunities and SBI is well positioned to participate in this journey.
Our performance in this quarter reflects the strength and resilience of the franchise.”
Going ahead, the bank will focus on strengthening its deposit franchise, building a skilled and productive workforce, and enhancing its cybersecurity operational framework.
Explaining the improvement in NIM, Mr.
Setty said, “With better liability management on the cost front, the cost of deposits we have seen has significantly come down.
And that combined with yield on advances has helped us to improve the NIM overall.”
On the margin outlook, he said, “In case there is any further repo action, EBLR portfolio further gets repriced quickly.
This will add maybe 4-5 basis points to NIM.
Even assuming that there will be some increase in the deposit rate, we hope to maintain above 3%.”
