The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has set up a wholly owned subsidiary, NPCI Tech Solutions Limited (NTSL), to expand the group’s technology capabilities beyond its core payments mandate, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and digital financial infrastructure.
NPCI announced the appointment of Vishal Kanvaty as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NTSL.
The new subsidiary will also focus on Global Capability Centre (GCC) services and provide technology services for initiatives such as eKYC Setu and the Unified Ticketing Platform (UTP), besides supporting other Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) programmes.
According to NPCI, NTSL has been established as the technology and innovation arm of the NPCI Group.
It will build capabilities across emerging technology domains and support the expansion of the group’s technology initiatives.
Mr.
Kanvaty, who has been associated with NPCI for nearly a decade, has led the development and commercialisation of several market innovation platforms that now form part of NTSL’s focus areas, the corporation said.
In a release, Dilip Asbe, Managing Director and CEO of NPCI, said, “Technology has been at the core of NPCI’s journey and its contribution to India’s digital transformation.
As we look ahead, advancements in Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies are creating new possibilities across digital infrastructure and financial services.
NTSL has been established to focus on these opportunities and further strengthen the NPCI Group’s technology capabilities.
We are pleased to have Vishal lead NTSL and are confident that his experience and leadership will guide its growth and future direction.”
NTSL is NPCI’s fourth wholly owned subsidiary, alongside NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL) and NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL).
The formation of NTSL was in pursuance of NPCI Board and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approval.
